2012: Another Great Year

What do Facebook, Barack Obama and software-defined networks (SDNs) have in common? Normally, the answer would be ‘not much,’ but in 2012, the three had one big commonality: they were everywhere. Facebook acquired Instagram in April, followed by its decision to go public in May; Obama was re-elected as the United States president; and VMware acquired SDN-leader Nicira, cementing the technology’s importance in the industry. While it would be difficult to top the media buzz that surrounded each of these news stories, CloudSigma also had one of its strongest years yet. In addition to numerous customer wins and innovation, our CTO Robert Jenkin, traveled all over the world speaking at some of the most influential conferences in the technology industry.

Robert began his speaking tour in June at Creative Storage. Throughout his session he tapped into CloudSigma’s experience in the media sector, explaining the benefits of SSD storage for media companies’ unwieldy storage requirements. Robert took his industry expertise on the road, also speaking at the Cloud Security Alliance, SMPTE and GigaOM Structure: Europe in September and October. And, next year, the pace doesn’t seem to be slowing with engagements already lined up for StorageVisions on January 6-7th and GigaOM Structure Data on March 20-21st!

In between these industry engagements, Robert and the rest of our team were busy forming partnerships, growing our customer base and developing our product portfolio. In March, we were selected as one of the commercial partners for the launch of a European cloud computing platform: Helix Nebula – The Science Cloud. Leveraging our public cloud, the three participating research organizations, CERN, the European Molecular Biology Lab and European Space Agency are able to tackle the huge amounts of data generated from their groundbreaking research.

As 2012 continued, we remained committed to helping customers and partners with their Big Data dilemmas. In April, we announced our Media Services Ecosystem, assisting media companies with the data-heavy production requirements that are associated with Blockbuster hits. Six months after the ecosystem was announced, we already had a 150 percent growth in customers, including some key players in the industry such as iStreamPlanet, Venera Technologies and CineCert.

With 2013 around the corner, we already have a lot in the works, aiming to surpass all of the buzz created by Facebook, Barack Obama and SDNs combined. Well… maybe not quite that much! But, by using what we accomplished in 2012 as a foundation, we will continue to innovate and expand, further establishing ourselves as the most flexible, customer-centric public cloud on the market.

Happy Holidays and see you next year!
