Conference Season is Here! CloudSigma is On the Road At Cloud Computing Events

If we’re not advising customers on how to efficiently leverage CloudSigma compute power for their workloads, or on an airplane traveling between data center locations, you can often find our executive team on stage and on the expo floor of some of the industry’s biggest trade shows. Following the quieter summer months, our COO, Bernino Lind, kicked off a flurry of conference activity with a slot on the panel, Amazon in Sight, at GigaOM Structure:Europe on September 18. If you missed it don’t worry, you can watch the discussion in full below:

Bernino, and a number of other thought leaders, including Upcloud General Manager, Antti Vilpponen; and the CMO of ProfitBricks, Andreas Gauger, discussed how, contrary to popular belief, competing with industry giant AWS is feasible. Bernino explained that because most providers aren’t operating at AWS’ scale, there are ways for them to cut costs and keep pace with the industry giant, such as innovating at the chip level to improve energy efficiency or providing customers real flexibility and control over their computing in the cloud. Panelists also touched on the issue of data privacy, in light of the recent NSA scandal. Bernino explained how CloudSigma being a European-based cloud provider has given them a leg up, in part because Swiss data protection laws are more stringent than in the U.S.

While at Structure:Europe, we also announced our new hybrid hosting offering. By granting colocated space at all of our locations and private patching to our public cloud (a technology we announced as part of CloudSigma 2.0 in June), customers receive both the security, elasticity and powerful networking required for sensitive data and demanding workloads. This is made possible with a 1GigE or 10GigE private patch from our cloud directly into a customers’ private network within our public cloud, as well as offering network-as-a-service leveraging CloudSigma’s redundant routing, external IP connectivity and DDoS protection for their own general public IP needs on their own private infrastructure.

With October around the corner, my schedule is full with more conference engagements. On October 2 I will travel to New York to attend one of the industry’s best-known shows: Interop. The latter part of the month I will be in Hollywood, CA speaking about the security and efficiency benefits private patching in a public cloud offers to the media industry, at the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers’ (SMPTE) annual technical conference and exhibition. My session, Private Patching in the Cloud: Offering the Media Industry a Mind of Its Own, will be Thursday, October 24 at 9:30 a.m. PDT.

If you’ll be attending Interop New York or SMPTE’s annual conference in the coming weeks and would like to meet up, don’t be afraid to reach out. We’d love to hear from you!

About Robert Jenkin

Robert is a Co-Founder and CEO of CloudSigma along with his long-time friend Patrick Baillie. Robert & Patrick had a vision for a different style of cloud focused around customer requirements not computing frameworks created by the service provider; an open environment where end-users could define their infrastructure in a highly flexible way with little or no restrictions, just like they were used to doing in their own private environments. Their shared vision was the genesis of CloudSigma in 2009 in Zürich, Switzerland and as with many great things, it began life sketched out on a napkin! Robert previously has experience in early stage venture capital and corporate finance in the City of London. Robert is a graduate in Economics from Cambridge University.
